GaadiWaadi – New Bajaj Dominar 400 is nearly Rs. 37,000 more affordable than before thanks to the shift to a sub-350 cc engine that attracts only 18 per cent GST The updated Bajaj Dominar 400 has been launched in India with a downsized engine while retaining the familiar ‘400’ badge. Priced at Rs. 2,03,214 (ex-showroom, Delhi), the new motorcycle is nearly Rs. 37,000 more affordable than before thanks to the shift to a sub-350 cc engine that attracts an 18 per cent GST rate as opposed to 40 per cent. At the heart of the change is a 349.13 cc engine replacing the earlier 373 cc unit. Interestingly, despite the reduction in displacement, Bajaj has chosen to continue with the ‘400’ branding – mirroring the strategy seen in the new 350 cc Triumph motorcycles as well where the larger badge helps maintain performance perception among consumers. Performance figures have seen minor tweaks. The new engine produces 40.4 bhp of maximum power and 33.2 Nm of peak torque. While there is a marginal bump of around 1 bhp, torque has dropped by around 2.8 Nm. It has been achieved by shortening the stroke from 60 mm to 56.1 mm while retaining the same 89 mm bore. Dimensionally, the Dominar remains unchanged, retaining its muscular road presence and touring-friendly proportions. It continues to measure around 2,156 mm in length, 836 mm in width and 1,112 mm in height with a wheelbase of 1,453 mm and a ground clearance of 157 mm. The kerb weight stands at around 193 kg while the 13-litre fuel tank supports long distance rides. The Dominar 400 continues to be loaded with features such as full-LED lighting including a distinctive headlamp, twin digital instrument clusters, a slipper clutch, USD front forks and a rear monoshock. Braking duties are handled by disc brakes at both ends with a dual-channel ABS system. Presented in three colours namely Red, Black and Green, it certainly appears better than before. Not only the colours, but also the graphics have also been refreshed to offer something never-seen-before to the customers. The biggest update that makes an impact on the ground comes in the form of new tyres. While the Apex variant comes fitted with 17-inch Vredestein Centuro ST tyres, the Dash and Flash ride on the same CEAT GRIPP XL RE tyres as standard. During the ride of the Apex variant, the difference in the ride quality was apparent as the new tyres showed a lot of improvement than before and offered much better grip on the wet roads of Guwahati. Royal Enfield claimed that it has updated the ride modes while introducing the mode retention feature so that the last selected mode is retained each time the rider starts the engine. As we rode the Apex grade of the 2026 Guerrilla 450, we observed commendable improvement in mid-range torque during the Street mode, while Sport is peppy as ever without any substantial difference in ride quality. The 6-speed gearbox with slipper clutch has also been carried over. In fact, the suspension setup comprising telescopic front forks and monoshock rear absorbers with preload adjustability has been retained. The front and rear disc brake system too remains untouched. However, what truly transformed the ride from decent to overwhelming was the inclusion of a new aluminium handlebar which is positioned lower in the Apex grade. It results in a forward-leaning riding triangle with a more upright riding stance. Though, it would have become an absolute beast of a package had Royal Enfield turned its attention to the rear suspension and also tweaked it to reduce the stiffness and offer a much more comfortable ride. Penetration also edged up to 6.5 per cent from 6.1 per cent showing that EVs are slowly becoming a more mainstream choice. At the top of the table was TVS Motor Company which emerged as the leader in the segment courtesy of rapid expansion of its footprint as well as good reception for the iQube range and Orbiter. The company sold 3,41,513 electric two-wheelers during the year – registering a huge 43.5 per cent growth over FY25. The second place went to Bajaj Auto which posted 2,89,349 units – up 25.1 per cent on a year-on-year basis. The brand continued to benefit from consistent demand and a more stable growth curve compared to some of its rivals due to Chetak which saw new variants added in quick succession in recent times. Priced at Rs. 2.79 lakh (ex-showroom) or Rs. 1.99 lakh under the Battery-as-a-Service model, the C6’s bookings and test rides will open from 12 PM on April 10, 2026 at the first dedicated Flying Flea showroom in Jayanagar, Bengaluru while deliveries are scheduled to commence by the end of May. The Flying Flea name itself is a throwback to the original lightweight motorcycle used during the 1940s and the new C6 carries forward that philosophy – combining a neo-vintage design with connected tech and wanting to be an everyday usable motorcycle.
